I was born in Namibia ( then South-West Africa ) in August 1975. Yes, the same year the war started between South-West Africa and Angola. I grew up on a farm called Erindi. This is where my love for nature, hunting and animals began. This was also the beginning of my love story with Africa and it’s beauty and people . I think I was born with wanderlust unknown to me like millions of things? My father gave me the nickname of “platvoet”. Direct translation flatfeet. Due to the unusual shape of my feet. I will tell you later a lot more about this. African children till this day go about life barefoot and will do so 100’s of years to come. So shoes was a big pain…
My best friend on the farm was a black deaf mute and my pet lion among loads of other unusual pets like a pangolin and Orix’s. Only now that I’m in my 40’s I realize how different I grew up from the rest of the world and why I don’t always fit the shoe. The same I can say about school- being very badly dyslexic. School was more about Sports and everything else than school… but school also had good times. My girlfriend in High school father liked me and took me with to his farm over weekends and some holidays to South Africa. I even saved up some money and went with them to Isreal and Egypt. He had a boat and we went skiing and sailing many times. I became a child in their home and this gave me a break from boarding school. He liked to travel and camping so he basically opened Pandora’s box’s for me…
